Discussions among advertising experts about rationality of using services of celebrities been taking place since a long time. The problem is that the brand becomes dependant on the behaviour of celebrity and that is a risk. For example, such sports stars as Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong, being leaders in their fields, at some point summed the advertising partners, which they represented. From another perspective, even in the times of crisis, with the right PR strategy it is possible to minimize the damage and a good example of that would be Maria Sharapova and her actions during the recent doping scandal. At the same time, such celebrities as George Clooney, Michael Jordan, David Beckham, Sharlize Theron, Uma Thurman, Brad Pitt, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nicole Kidman, Bruce Willis and many others are positive examples of cooperation and had a direct impact on the successful developments of different brands. 

Nowadays, with the fast development of social networks, each celebrity becomes a small media tool and platform and even when long-term contracts are more common, short-term cooperation is also considerable. This helps to minimize risks and budgets, test the audience and receive results of marketing campaign "right here and right now".

Celebrity branding or celebrity endorsement is a form of advertising campaign or marketing strategy used by brands, companies, or a non-profit organization which involves celebrities or a well-known person using their social status or their fame to help promote a product, service or even raise awareness on environmental or social matters.

Marketers use celebrity endorsers in hopes that the positive images of the celebrity endorser of the brand will also be passed on to the products or the brand image associated with the celebrities. Celebrity endorsement is usually commonly used by fashion or beauty brands, but a non-profit organization relies on celebrities as well, as celebrities have mass communication skills which can attract people's attention and is helpful in reaching a wider audience to raise their awareness towards a certain organization or an issue. Thus, making celebrities effective fundraisers.
