Dua Lipa and Stormzy were the big winners at this year’s BRIT Awards, picking up two prizes each, while Ed Sheeran was honoured with the Global Success Award.
Rising British star Lipa won Best British Female Artist and Best British Breakthrough, bringing her two young siblings on stage with her as she praised a landmark year for female artists.
“Thank you to everyone pulled this through for me,” she said.
“I also want to thank every single female who has been on this stage before me who has given every girl in the music and every girl in society something to aspire to and be inspired by. Here's to more women on these stages, more women taking home awards and women taking over the world.”
Stormzy, who closed Wednesday night’s ceremony, beat friend Ed Sheeran to win to the Best British Male Artist and the coveted Album of the year.
“Firstly all the glory to God, this is all you I know lot every time I have the glory to God seems a strange thing but this is all him,” he told the audience.
“Also, Gang Signs and Prayer was the hardest thing. I’ve never given my entire being, my entire emotion. I didn’t have anything left after we made something undeniable. I love you guys.”
Liam Gallagher stepped in for Ariana Grande to perform a moving tribute to the victims of the Manchester Arena terror attacks, performing hit Live Forever. Grande has been due to make a surprise appearance at the ceremony but had to pull out after reportedly falling ill.
Despite missing out on Best British Male, Sheeran won the prize for Global Success, presented to him by Ronnie Wood.
Other winners on the night included Foo Fighters for Best International Group, Kendrick Lamar for Best International Male and Rag'n'Bone Man for Best Single.
